A pidgin is a language developed by speakers of different languages who need to communicate. It is the product of a multilingual situation in which those who wish to communicate must find a simple code to enable them to do so. Pidgin does not have native speaker.

Superstrate language: the dominant language that provides most of the vocabulary of the pidgin.

Substrate languages: these are the other minority languages in the pidgin.

When the pidgin is an evolved form of language and has native speakers, it becomes a Creole
